PostSubject: Hello From North Alabama   March 30th 2010, 12:37 am

I was checking the stats on my own forum when I ran across this one. I live close to the Knox area myself. I vacation in the Smokies pretty regular and pass through that way a few times a year. Not many forums like this one that is close to me. So I thought I would join. At the moment I keep and breed Boa constrictors Albinos and Hypos. I just recently had a litter of 100% pure albino babies that are doing great. I look forward to keeping check on how things go here. It's nice to see forums that are based close to home.

Yeah I get that a lot here too. lol Just goes to show you how stupid some people are. I don't pay any attention to it. I just do my thing and if the people around here don't like it. Not much they can do to stop it. lol I find a few people here and there that are into reptiles. But few and far between around here. You get a lot of those that just want them cause they're cool. Then burn out real fast. I enjoy fool with reptiles . So The internet is the place to go to meet like minded people most times. Forums like this and the one I run. Are vessels for people like us to connect with one another.

Thanks I'm looking forward to seeing who is closer to me. Not sure if anyone here has any problems with feeders. I raise rats and I usually have a lot of surplus rats.

I raise rats as well, though it's mainly for my own collection (with 12 ball pythons plus babies seasonally, buying from local pet stores got old--and expensive--fast Wink). But I could maybe use some pointers on keeping/breeding the rats. I got offf to a kinda slow start with them, but I think my breeders were getting old. I've since held back some babies and turned them into breeders, which is helping some. I've got a few more held back as well, and they should be getting up to size in another month or so.

I'll make a thread about how I do it in the morning. Maybe that will help you with what you are doing. I've been raising rats for 12 years. I'm kinda old school and some don't agree with my techniques. But they work. lol I'll get right to it in the morning.

Thanks much!

I kinda know to keep males with females (LOL), but some of the other things can be a bit more like "learn from your mistakes." Wink I know not to use cedar as bedding (found that out the hard way--my local Walmart was out of pine, and I didn't realize that red cedar was bad), water rinse the tubs, not bleach mixtures (bleach mixes with the amonia in the urine and can cause issues), find low-dust types of pine/bedding (dust causes breathing issues) . . . and so on. LOL But I'm getting there. So any other pointers that the average person might not know, I'd more than welcome it! Wink

I made a post in the feeder section. Sounds like you got the substrate thing going now. Your right about the dust. We can really get into a good discussion about it on the thread I started. Cover the basics pretty much but I left room for comments and questions. lol

sweat bro. I've thought about the breeding rats thing but I just worry about room/smell. Had a fucked up experience w/ the cannibalism too so not a fan of that either. Good to see someone w/ knowledge come in though. welcome.

Sorry I haven't been around much folk's. I've been really busy. If I left anything off on the Rat breeding topic. Please feel free to ask me anything that you might have problems with. I'd be happy to help out. As mentioned before I been really busy. I have a forum on forummotion also and it takes up a lot of my time. But things are slowing down some in the real world around me. LOL So maybe now I can get back to my online stuff.
